How To Sharpen Nutribullet Blades, The Easy Way!

It’s Been A While Since My Last Post, So Thanks For Your Patience!

I have not posted a single blog in almost 4 months, and the reason being that I have been so caught up with doing reviews on tons of different knife sharpeners. Anyways, it’s great to finally be making another how to blog post! Just as I have done in my previous posts, the goal is to provide you with a simple road map that is easy to follow, and can be implemented by anyone. Remember, you don’t have to be a pro to do this. I certainly am not!

How many of you have been intrigued and captivated by the “healthy smoothie movement” over the last couple of years? You know, the hype about how smoothies (especially green) are so beneficial to the health, and make us feel more active, lead to less illness etc. Well, I joined the bandwagon about a year ago and have been consuming a smoothie a day religiously! A separate post on why smoothies are so awesome to follow later, but for now let’s focus on the task at hand: How To Sharpen Nutribullet Blades.

Step 1: Detach The Extractor Blade So That It Is Easily Accessible.

By completing this first step, we will gain complete access to the extractor blade without any obstruction. When the blade is attached to the base, it is quite difficult to sharpen the edges (see picture below courtesy of Nutriliving). Therefore, we must remove the blade entirely so we can sharpen the edges without any obstruction.

To remove the extractor blade, do the following:

  1. Ensure the blade is clean and free of debris. Get a soft towel and grip the blade tightly and firmly in your hand.
  2. While gripping the blade, use a set of pliers to rotate the gear in a clockwise motion. The gear is the black, rubber rotating part that can be found on the opposite end of the base cup. The gear should unscrew and come right off.
  3. There should be an orange washer in place that you will need to remove. Make sure you store this safely.
  4. Gently push on the blade stem with your thumb to slowly release the blade from the base. Pull the blade out slowly. Recover the white washer and store safely. Do not remove the rubber seal as it is not necessary.

Please check out the following video from Robert Domingue, as he does a fine job explaining how to remove the blade. Now that we have the blade out, proceed to Step 2!

Step 2: Is Sharpening Really Required?

Before I get into how to sharpen nutribullet blades, it is important that you understand the following: According to nutriliving, you shouldn’t be required to sharpen your blades at all. I don’t necessarily agree nor disagree with this statement. I think that whether or not you need to sharpen your blade depends on a number of different factors:

  1. What are you using your nutribullet to blend? If it’s thick, tough, pulpy veggies and fruits, then this will cause the blade to become dull over time.
  2. How often do you use your nutribullet? The more you use your blade, the more likely the edge will dull over time.
  3. What kind of results are you currently getting? Are you getting the same smoothie quality and consistency as you were in the beginning?

Answering the above three questions will help you determine whether or not you should sharpen your blade. A simple test is to simply feel the cutting edge and gauge how sharp/dull the blade is, and then make your decision.

Step 3: How To Sharpen Nutribullet Blades (If Required).

If required, you can sharpen your nutribullet blade in a number of different ways. It’s important to realize that there are multiple ways that will work. I will be using my Work Sharp GSS stones to sharpen the blade, but you could use any sharpening stone or rod and it would work just as well. Don’t overthink or complicate it, stick to the basics and you should be fine!

  1. Identify all the cutting edges on the blade. This is what actually blends and chops up the fruit and vegetables. There should be a total of 6 cutting edges. This is what we are going to want to sharpen.
  2. Take your sharpening plate/rod (I would use a fine grit), and simply run it along the edge. Complete 10 full passes. Run your finger across the edge and you will immediately notice a difference.
  3. Repeat step 2 for all cutting edges.

Do not try to make the blade more sharp than it needs to be. In the end, you only need to feel a slight increase in sharpness, and that should be more than good. Do not try to remove more metal such that the blade is sharp enough to cut your finger. This is absolutely not required. Finish off by thoroughly rinsing your blade with hot water, and reassembling the blade to the base cup.

Conclusion

Steps 1 to 3 should fully answer the question: how to sharpen nutribullet blades. It is not difficult at all, and can be done by anyone! But, be sure that your blade actually needs sharpening. If this is not the case or you’re unsure, you may be better off buying a replacement blade. I hope this post was helpful to you; If it was, please leave me a comment and let me know what you thought.
